How this implementation behaves

In the fixed variant, two crews remain on Day and two remain on Night. In the rotating variant, the second half of the 28-day cycle exchanges those day/night roles.

Fixed and rotating 2-2-3 are different schedules

The 14-day fixed implementation keeps two phases on Day and two on Night. The 28-day rotating implementation uses the same first-half rhythm, then exchanges those Day and Night roles for the second 14 days before repeating.

Anchor the two-day block to a known roster date

In phase 1, cycle day 1 starts a two-day Day block. The fixed version repeats after 14 days; the rotating version starts the corresponding Night block on day 15. Use a date and crew assignment that you can confirm in an approved roster before treating the generated dates as aligned.

Common 2-2-3 setup errors

  • Treating the 2-2-3 or Panama name as a complete specification instead of checking the displayed D/N/O sequence.
  • Choosing the 14-day fixed version while expecting each crew to rotate between Day and Night.
  • Assigning local Crew A–D labels by display order without confirming which phase each crew follows on the anchor date.

Verify these items before operational use

  1. Align cycle day 1 with a known date from an approved source schedule; a wrong anchor shifts every assignment.
  2. Confirm that each real crew maps to the intended phase instead of assuming the displayed phase order matches local labels.
  3. Confirm the local Day and Night endpoints. Changing them can create real gaps, overlaps, or daylight-saving duration warnings.
  4. Review member exceptions, minimum rest, staffing targets, qualifications, leave, agreements, and local rules outside this template.
